Comfort Quilters
Ann Farenkrog started the quilting group in 2008. After she moved up north we kept it going with current chairpersons Imogene Blackmon and Jane Sprague. Barbara Bogert became our designer and teacher.
We meet to sew and for fellowship each Monday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in a Sunday School classroom that is converted to a sewing room for us. We provide comfort quilts for anyone who is in distress. Call the church office if you have a friend or loved one in need. We are also providing comfort to area charities and medical facilities. Our regular recipients are Coastal Cancer Center, Magnolia OB/GYN, Horry County Fostering Hope, Horry County Family Outreach, Helping Hands of North Myrtle Beach, and Sea Haven & Lighthouse as well as individuals and new babies.
As of June 2011 we have made and distributed well over 350 comfort quilts and thereby touched the lives of many with a show of God’s love through our hands.
At present the Comfort Quilters are: Imogene Blackmon, Barbara Bogert, Karen Cullen, Debbie Faris, Cindy Hyatt, Dee Jordan, Lynn Riggs, Jane Sprague, Linda Tucker, and associate members Esther Dininny and Sally Halma, our Snow Birds. Not all of our ladies sew, we have many other “jobs” that need to be done and strive to get 5-6 a week finished by having our sewers assemble kits of quilt tops at home and then our non-sewers help construct the actual layered quilt.
We work on a zero budget, but the Lord does provide for us through donations of fabric and money that some how arrive just when we are in need of more supplies.
Below you can see a few photos of our finished quilts for men, women, children and babies. No two are alike so these are just samples. |
